REQUEST FOR HELP DUE TO THE LOSS OF SNAP BENEFITS
WALLA WALLA VALLEY HUNGER RELIEF COALITION AND THE BLUE MOUNTAIN ACTON COUNCIL
Community partners came together this week to launch a coordinated regional campaign to raise funds to mitigate the loss of SNAP benefits due to the federal government closure. This effort is under the umbrella of the Walla Walla Valley Hunger Relief Coalition, which BMAC is spearheading to support bulk purchasing of food cards from local grocery stores so we can help them and mitigate the pressure on area food banks. We’ll also be seeking food donations so we can get additional food out to area pantries and food programs.
Ways you can help:
Become a partner! Any organization, business, or church can join.
Share the press release info with your email networks to ask them to donate funds or food Fundraising link: https://secure.qgiv.com/event/wwvhrc/Food needs: Pantry Staples, Produce Needs
Share the social media post from BMAC to your audience https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1Bdumbm9Nd/
Send Danielle any ideas or suggestions for other ways to raise awareness or bring them to our next meeting on Monday, November 3 at 11:00am-12:00pm at BMAC, 8 E. Cherry Street.
We have already raised $21,500 and are working now on the logistics for purchasing food cards from local grocery stores and announcing a day to do a food card distribution. We know we can get discounts on group purchasing from both Andy’s and Safeway so are exploring where else we can buy and looking at our neighboring communities too (Waitsburg, Dayton, and Pomeroy). We’ll do another press release with the distribution details as soon as we have them.
If you or someone you know are interested in more information about the regional campaign please contact Danielle Garbe Reser, CEO Blue Mountain Action Council at danielleg@bmacww.org
