Join us in the D+R Pressroom for a 6-hour workshop exploring the art of handmade papermaking and mastering the basics of traditional hand-set type for letterpress printing.
We will learn the art of papermaking using a traditional mould and deckle to make small flat cotton cards in the morning and print personalized semi-translucent origami fold envelopes on an antique platen press in the afternoon. By the end of class you will have make a dozen deckle-edges notes and envelopes. These items take hours to dry, and you’re welcome to pick them up the next day, or they will be mailed / delivered to you.
There is additional (optional) studio access available to workshop attendees on Saturday March 9 from 1-5PM for pickup, and you’re welcome to do additional supervised letterpress work, or put the finishing touches on your paper goods using the studio’s calligraphy ink supplies, scenting your paper, using the antique typewriter, apply sealing wax, or create personalized stamps.
