Escape to Nature CME: Osteopathically Inspired Self-Care

  • Waitsburg Commercial Club (map)

The Land - The Living System - Joy

What can a regenerative ecosystem can teach family physicians and frontline essential healthcare workers about balance, well-being, and sustainable joy?

Sticks and stones, muscles and bones, using osteopathically inspired self-care to pull yourself together.

The human body is the living system we each experience most directly, and also the one that essential healthcare workers spend their time investigating, diagnosing, and treating. Similarly, an ecosystem is a living system, a complex matrix

Meet us at the Finch Hotel, Walla Walla Wa and we will transport you and your gear to the beautiful and magical Blue Mountains for a fully supported bespoke adventure where you can relax, rest, and rejuvenate plus gain a little CME and new tools to fuel your career.

Get outside, have fun, chat, reflect, paddle board, walk, share, discover, palpate, draw your body map, and learn new tools to un-doctor yourself and others.

Don’t miss this amazing adventure as we explore land and landscapes as metaphors for engaging human physiology.

At the end of this activity, learners will be able to…

1. Use the story of land as a metaphor, and identify the narrative as a medical tool for improving health outcomes for patients and the community. Draw a simple visual tool to help patients navigate uncertainty and new learning. Acquire the language of wayfinding, and landmarks, to identify safe spaces we can move into as we navigate barriers.

2. Appraise how spending time outside on the land (farm, forest, canyon, desert, rivers, lakes, and streams) surrounded by bird song, animals, plants, fungi and insects can be rejuvenating. Extrapolate how the life cycle, metamorphosis, and ecosystem teach mindfulness, grounding, personal growth, and stages of awareness which can be incorporated into clinical practice.

3. Participate in practice visioning from the patient’s perspective, the physician’s perspective, and the community's perspective of what a great experience of health care delivery would look like. You get to share your experience with others as we lead the change in 21st-century modern medicine.

This professional workshop has been applied for CME and is pending approval for 5 hours of CME with the American Academy of Family Physicians.
